WATCH: Pursuit involving ICE agents ends in crash on Chicago’s Northwest Side

CHICAGO (WGN) — A pursuit involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers ended in a crash Tuesday on Chicago’s Northwest Side. The incident came to a halt around 11 a.m. in the 3800 block of North Olcott Avenue in the Dunning neighborhood. Edward Krueger said he captured the final moments of the incident on camera after noticing activity outside his home. “I only saw them from my window as they drove past. It looked like the car that was pursuing the red vehicle kind of just rammed into the back of them. It didn’t look like what they commonly refer to as a PIT maneuver,” he said. Another witness, who wanted to remain anonymous, said she was walking her dogs when she saw a red Lexus being followed by several unmarked vehicles. She said the pursuing vehicles appeared to strike the rear of the Lexus multiple times. According to the witness, the Lexus eventually crashed into a tree. Krueger said he later saw a man being escorted from the scene. “I was about a block away, but it looked like an older gentleman, tan, darker complexion with gray hair. He had his hands behind his back in what appeared to be handcuffs, I couldn't quite tell from here. He didn’t seem like he was struggling or fighting with them, he just seemed like he was being walked out of the area near his car and into the other cars,” Krueger said. The incident left some nearby residents shaken. Krueger said the situation was concerning, particularly because it unfolded in a neighborhood where families and children are often outside. “A little disheartening to see some sort of federal agent or law enforcement agent driving in such an aggressive way in a residential area,” he said. “I have a two-year-old. We go out for walks all the time. We could have been crossing the street when they flew through the intersection.” WGN-TV has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security and Chicago police for additional information about the incident and is awaiting a response.
