MSP: Big Rapids-area man killed in US-131 crash Friday

ALAMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Big Rapids-area man is dead after a three-vehicle crash near Kalamazoo Friday morning, state police say. The 55-year-old man was driving a utility van southbound on US-131 near the US-131 Business Loop in Alamo Township around 9:40 a.m. when police say he struck a roll-off truck from behind. The impact of that initial crash forced the van into the right lane where it hit a semi-truck, MSP said in a release. The utility van's driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither the roll-off truck nor the semi's drivers were injured. In a release, MSP said all three drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time and alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been contributing factors in the crash. Troopers are continuing to investigate. Southbound US-131 at D Avenue was closed for about five hours while crews responded and cleared the scene.
