Drunk driver triggers fatal New Year’s collision
In El Paso, Texas, a 48-year-old man has been charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle after causing a fatal crash on New Year's Day that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old woman. According to court documents obtained by KTSM, the man, Abel Garcia, ran a red light at the intersection of Gateway North and Sean Haggerty, crashing into a Chevrolet Camaro. The crash caused the death of Angelique Diaz De Leon, a passenger in the Camaro. Garcia displayed signs of intoxication and admitted to drinking before the crash. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation and later arrested for driving under the influence. Garcia's blood alcohol content was found to be above the legal limit. He turned himself in to police and was also booked for an outstanding warrant for family violence, with a bond set at $151,500.
