25-year-old pronounced dead after off-road bike crash

DENVER (KDVR) - The Boulder County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly bike crash reported around 1 a.m. on Saturday near Gold Hill. Officials were alerted around 1 a.m. on Saturday to a man who had gone off the road in the 3000 block of Gold Run Road near Gold Hill while biking, with the caller stating the man was initially unconscious but breathing. Crews arrived at the scene and immediately began life-saving measures; however, the victim, identified as a 25-year-old man, died from his injuries at the scene. Initial investigation revealed that five friends met earlier in the evening at the Gold Hill Inn, two leaving on bikes with the other three in a vehicle. The group headed south on the Gold Run Road, but at one point the vehicle passed the two bikers. Shortly after, one of the bikers realized the 25-year-old man was no longer behind him, and he retraced his route, locating a bicycle light about 50 feet down an embankment next to to the eventual scene. He and the vehicle occupants went down to find the 25-year-old man, immediately calling for emergency medical services at the scene, where they remained until responders arrived. Officials are investigating the cause and manner of his death, and the road was closed for about seven hours while investigators scoped out the scene.
