Driver involved in deadly Westport crash fled scene, victim identified
WESTPORT, Mass. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after a deadly crash involving three vehicles n I-195 westbound in Westport Monday afternoon. In a press release Tuesday morning, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn's office identified the victim as 64-year-old Mario Carreiro of Fairhaven. First responders were first called to the scene around 3:20 p.m. for reports of a serious crash near mile marker 16. When Massachusetts State Police arrived, they found a blue Audi in the right lane with front-end damage and a white Chevy Silverado in the tree line with "catastrophic damage." According to Quinn's office, a green BMW that was also involved in the crash had fled the scene. The driver of the blue Audi wasn't hurt and remained on the scene to talk to law enforcement. Carreiro had been driving the Chevy Silverado and was found outside of the pickup truck. He was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead shortly after arriving there.
