Florida woman accused of driving drunk through fatal crash scene; blows 2x legal limit

A woman accused of driving while more than twice the legal alcohol limit was arrested after deputies said she drove through a roadway closed for a fatal crash investigation in Brevard County. According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office , deputies were assisting the Florida Highway Patrol by blocking a road while troopers investigated a traffic homicide when a vehicle attempted to drive around the closure. Deputies yelled for the driver, identified as Lauren Anderson, to stop, but she continued driving past them, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies ran after the vehicle and were eventually able to get Anderson to stop. Investigators said Anderson appeared sluggish, slurred her speech and struggled to get out of the vehicle. Anderson declined to perform field sobriety exercises, according to the sheriff’s office. After she was taken to the Brevard County Jail , authorities said she submitted to breath tests that registered blood-alcohol levels of 0.195 and 0.209. Florida’s legal limit for most drivers is 0.08. The sheriff’s office said a witness had also called authorities shortly before the traffic stop to report a suspected impaired driver in the same vehicle.
