Driver gets 9-year sentence for deadly DUI collision in Aurora, IL

A man from Aurora has been sentenced to nine years in prison after causing a fatal crash while driving under the influence in 2023. Joshua Crye, 34, was found guilty of aggravated DUI resulting in death and faced a maximum sentence of 14 years, but was given nine years by Judge Ann Celine O'Hallaren Walsh. The incident occurred when Crye, driving at 85 mph, crossed into oncoming traffic on Eola Road, resulting in a collision that claimed the life of Nicole Dickerson. Crye, with a blood alcohol level of 0.183 at the time, has been in jail since his arrest on June 12, 2023. He must serve at least 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole, with credit for time served. In addition, a wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against Crye by Dickerson's family.
