Plane crash in Tattnall County leaves Lyons man dead; FAA, NTSB investigating
A man from Lyons was killed in a plane crash Wednesday evening in Tattnall County, according to local officials.The Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office said Tattnall County 911 received a report of an airplane crash at about 5:59 p.m. on Highway 144 west of Glennville in the Tison Community.A witness confirmed to WJCL 22 that the plane crashed by a pond on Watermelon Creek Church Road.Tattnall County Fire Rescue, Tattnall County EMS, Tattnall County EMA, the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office and the Glennville Fire Department responded to the scene.Tattnall County Coroner Herb Brown previously confirmed there was one fatality and said only one person was on the plane.Officials have now identified the victim as Tony Zorn of Lyons. His next of kin has been notified.The investigation has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.No additional information was immediately available.
