Driver charged with felony DUI in deadly Beaufort County crash
The driver involved in a deadly Beaufort County crash earlier this week has now been arrested and charged. Booking records from the Beaufort County Detention Center show 23-year-old Isabelle S. Zilko was arrested Friday and charged with felony DUI resulting in death. According to custody records, Zilko was later released without bond on Saturday.The charge stems from a single-vehicle crash that happened just before 12:45 a.m. Monday on Brickyard Point Road near Fiddler Drive on Lady’s Island.Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say a 2000 Toyota pickup truck was traveling north when it ran off the right side of the road, overturned and struck a tree.The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Hailee Shackelfurd, 31, of Beaufort. Officials say she died at the scene around 12:54 a.m. from multiple blunt force injuries. Shackelfurd was a passenger in the truck. Zilko, who was driving the vehicle, was taken to a local hospital with injuries following the crash.A GoFundMe created for Zilko says she suffered serious injuries in the crash, including a broken neck, broken collarbone, broken ribs and spinal fractures. The fundraiser says she faces a long recovery and mounting medical expenses.The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
