Dirt bike rider seriously injured in La Jolla crash

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A dirt bike rider suffered serious injuries Saturday evening following a collision with an SUV in La Jolla, authorities said. According to the San Diego Police Department, a 28-year-old woman driving a 2019 Kia Sorento was traveling westbound on Pearl Street and attempted to turn left onto southbound Eads Avenue. At the same time, a 30-year-old man riding a 2014 Honda dirt bike was traveling eastbound on Pearl Street. Investigators say witnesses reported the dirt bike rider was traveling at unsafe speeds and riding on the shoulder before entering the intersection, where he collided with the SUV. The rider was thrown from the dirt bike and suffered serious injuries, including an intracranial hemorrhage, a skull fracture and a ruptured eardrum. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His current condition is unknown. The driver of the KIA remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
