Detroit driver convicted for 2023 accident causing one death and one injury

A Detroit driver named Damien Eldridge Thomas was recently found guilty by a jury for a crash in August 2023 that resulted in the death of one man and serious injury to another. The court records filed on Thursday revealed that Thomas faced charges of operating a vehicle under the influence and reckless driving, all resulting in death or serious injury. The incident, which occurred on Interstate 75 in Detroit, involved Thomas driving intoxicated on the wrong side of the road and colliding with two other vehicles, leading to the tragic outcome. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office stated that the crash involved two 27-year-old men, with one losing his life on the scene and the other being hospitalized. Following an investigation by Michigan State Police, Thomas was taken into custody about a year after the crash and is now awaiting sentencing on February 12, as per court records from the Third Judicial Circuit Court in Detroit.
