Deadly collision shuts down southbound Marksheffel Road, prolonged closure anticipated

Drivers should anticipate a significant traffic backlog at the intersection of North Carefree Circle and North Marksheffel Road due to a serious accident. According to the Colorado State Patrol, a Ford pickup truck was involved in a collision at the intersection resulting in the death of two individuals. The victims were a 42-year-old man and a 19-year-old man who were trapped in the truck. Witness statements suggest that the Ford pickup truck may have run a red light and was struck by a Kia Telluride. Fortunately, the occupants of the Kia Telluride did not sustain any injuries in the accident. The collision resulted in both vehicles wrapping around a light pole and catching fire. The Colorado Springs Police Department has indicated that the Major Crash Team will conduct an investigation at the scene. Images from witnesses show both vehicles ablaze and wrapped around the light pole.
