Crash closes all lanes on I-10 at Clint
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- Two people are dead and four others are hurt after a crash that closed all lanes of Interstate 10 near Clint on Monday, June 29, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. The crash happened shortly before 10 a.m. on I-10 East, passing Clint on Mile Marker 42. The Sheriff's Office Special Traffic Investigators were called to the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that an SUV was traveling westbound on I-10 when, for reasons unclear to investigators, it crossed the median into the eastbound lanes and crashed head-on with another SUV. According to the Sheriff's Office, a total of six people were transported, but two people sustained life-threatening injuries. The four others sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV that crossed lanes -- 78-year-old Timothy Head from Van Horn-- and the passenger of the other SUV -- 67-year-old Barbra Thacker from Vernon, Texas-- died from their injuries. The Texas Department of Transportation says all lanes near the area are closed and all traffic is being diverted off the highway at Clint Exit 42 and Horizon Exit 37. Lanes are expected to be closed for four hours, TxDOT said. The crash remains under investigation.
