Coroner names driver killed in 3-vehicle crash west of Fort Wayne

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - Thursday, the Allen County Coroner named the man killed in a crash last week involving a pickup truck, a car and a concrete pump truck. The coroner identified the man as Matthew David Jones, 21, from Fort Wayne. The collision occurred last Friday afternoon at the intersection of West Washington Center and O'Day roads. The initial investigation revealed a car "briefly stopped" at the stop sign on O’Day Road but then attempted to cross Washington Center and collided with an oncoming concrete pump truck. There is no stop sign on Washington Center at that intersection, so the truck had the right of way. Investigators said the pump truck swerved to try to avoid the car but still hit the passenger’s side. It also hit a pickup truck head-on that had been coming from the opposite direction. Jones was driving the pickup. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was ruled an accident, which is the standard for crashes. The driver and passenger in the car were hospitalized with serious injuries.
