A cable car accident in northwest Italy left four people injured and approximately 100 stranded on a mountain on Tuesday. Those stranded on the mountaintop were later rescued by helicopter. The incident occurred on the Macugnaga cable car, traveling to the Moro Pass near the Swiss border. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported following the accident. The Alpine rescue services mentioned that the cabin arrived at the top station at a high speed, leading to the accident. The fire service stated that the accident involved two cabins impacting the upper and lower stations. Three passengers in the upper cabin and an operator at the lower station were injured. The evacuation of all stranded individuals took about three hours by helicopter. An administrator of the cable car management company described a technical issue that caused the car to not slow down properly when entering the station. This incident occurred during the peak ski season in Italy, where visitors were enjoying the Christmas and New Year holidays. Additionally, historical accidents involving cable cars in Italy were highlighted in the context of similar tragedies in the past.
