According to the dynamics of the accident, Johannes Zelger's Porsche GT3 lost control at Turn 15 and spun onto the track in a blind spot. Ralf Aron's Mercedes GT3, which was approaching, then hit it at high speed, causing the bodywork to catch fire. The race was then suspended for over 50 minutes. Fortunately, the drivers escaped almost unscathed, but the incident sparked an intense debate about safety and the signaling of hazards on the track. Forrest's Elbow is a downhill left-hand corner leading to the very long and fast Conrod Straight, one of the most famous sections of the circuit. The corner has a challenging geometry with an exit that tends towards the outside wall, making it easy to lose control if you go in too fast or miss the trajectory. The corner was named after Arthur Ronald "Jack" Forrest, a motorcycle racer who, during a practice session in 1947, crashed there and seriously fractured his elbow, therefore, the name: Forrest's Elbow. Forrest's Elbow is historically tied to some of the most spectacular and dangerous accidents on the Mount Panorama Circuit. From its origins in 1947 with Jack Forrest, to more recent stories, such as the one involving Mostert and the 2026 12-hour accident, the corner remains one of the most difficult and feared in motor racing.
