21-year-old Bradenton woman killed in wrong-way DUI crash: FHP

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida Highway Patrol said a man is behind bars after a 21-year-old Bradenton woman was killed in a wrong-way DUI crash in Charlotte County. The crash happened just after 1 a.m. on May 17, FHP said, and involved four vehicles traveling on Interstate 75. FHP said a 53-year-old Sarasota man, later identified as Dennis Lee Olson, was driving a 2020 Ford F150 and traveling south in the northbound lanes when he collided with two vehicles, both traveling the right way. One vehicle, a 2016 Kia Optima, was occupied by a 34-year-old Arcadia woman and two Arcadia boys, ages 12 and 15. All three were hospitalized with serious injuries. The other vehicle that Olson collided with was a 2012 Honda CRV driven by a 21- year-old Bradenton woman. FHP said she was pronounced dead on the scene. A fourth vehicle sustained minor damage after hitting crash debris, but the driver was not injured. Olson suffered minor injuries and, after being cleared at a local hospital, was placed under arrest and booked into the Charlotte County Jail. He was charged with vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter.
