1 person seriously injured after double crash near Rooster Rock

As of 11:15 a.m., all travel lanes westbound I-84 near Rooster Rock have reopened. PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Westbound Interstate 84 is closed near Rooster Rock after a crash Saturday morning, with Oregon State Police expected to lead the investigation, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. Officials said the closures are the result of a serious double crash near milepost 24 at approximately 8:15 a.m.. The first crash occurred when a semi-truck hit the shoulder of a broken-down care on the side of the road. The second crash is unrelated to the first crash and involved a Kia rear-ending a patrol SUV, which crashed into another patrol SUV; none of the deputies are injured, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. However, the department later reported that one of the SUVs is likely a total loss and the other is moderately damaged. Deputies said they believe the driver may have had an unspecified medical episode while driving. No deaths have been reported, but a person involved in the first crash is seriously injured and awaiting medical care via helicopter. In a social media post, the department said, "As of right now, all westbound lanes of I-84, two miles east of Corbett, are currently blocked and closed. Crews are diverting all westbound vehicles off the highway at Rooster Rock. The westbound I-84 on-ramp from Rooster Rock is also closed." The Oregon State Police are investigating both crashes. This is a developing story.
