1 dead, another critical after crane overturns on I-95 in Johnston County
KENLY, N.C. (WNCN) — A crash involving a crane near a truck stop in Johnston County killed one person and severely injured another on Tuesday. Just after 4:08 p.m., the North Carolina Department of Transportation reported the crash along Interstate 95. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the scene and took the lead on the investigation. Just after 7 p.m., a trooper told CBS 17 this was not a typical crash, as it involved a "commercial vehicle crane" that experienced a "tire failure." That failure, the trooper said, sent the crane vehicle off the roadway, where it overturned. There were two occupants in the crane vehicle. According to the NCSHP, the passenger died from their injuries and the driver has been hospitalized at WakeMed where they are in critical condition.
