Woman killed in tractor-trailer crash on US 64 in Davidson County; charges likely
DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash on US 64 in Davidson County. At around 8:32 p.m. on Wednesday, state troopers came to the area of US 64 and Heath Church Road after getting a report of a tractor-trailer running off the road and hitting a utility pole as well as a tree. The crash caused a power outage in the area and invovled three vehicles. Investigators say that a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle were going eastbound on US 64 when the passenger vehicle slowed down to turn left into a private driveway. The tractor-trailer failed to slow down and tried to veer right to avoid crashing; however, the tractor-trailer struck the passenger vehicle from behind. The force of the crash caused the passenger vehicle to move into an oncoming lane of traffic, where it collided with an SUV that was going westbound on US 64. The tractor-trailer crossed the center line and stopped in a ditch after hitting a utility pole and a tree. The passenger vehicle overturned into a ditch to the left. The driver of the passenger vehicle, a woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer and SUV drivers were both taken to local hospitals and there is no word on the extent of their injuries. Troopers say that charges are likely to be filed against the tractor-trailer driver.
