One woman killed in two-vehicle crash on I-59 in Jones County
JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) - One person is dead and others are injured after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 59 on Saturday afternoon. According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, state troopers responded to the scene on I-59 in Jones County around 3:18 p.m. on July 25, 2026. Investigators said a 2021 Nissan Rogue SUV and a 2023 Ford Explorer SUV were both traveling southbound when they collided. The driver of the Nissan Rogue, 27-year-old William L. Garrett Jr. of Gulfport, Mississippi, was taken to a local hospital with injuries. His two passengers, 27-year-old Lisa D. Garrett and a 4-year-old girl, both also from Gulfport, were hospitalized as well. Lisa Garrett later died from her injuries. The driver of the Ford Explorer, 54-year-old Pamela A. Gill of New Orleans, Louisiana, was not hurt. Her two passengers, 84-year-old Hirschel T. Abbott Jr. and 79-year-old Mimi D. Abbott, both of New Orleans, were also uninjured. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash.
