Woman killed in 2-vehicle crash in Morgan County

MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. — A woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Morgan County on Wednesday morning. In a post on Facebook, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office indicated that its deputies were called to the intersection of State Road 142 and Wilbur Road around 10 a.m. to investigate a crash. When police arrived at the scene, they located a 2013 GMC pickup truck and a 2001 Honda Accord that had been involved in a crash. The pickup truck was hauling a trailer loaded with lawn equipment at the time of the crash. After speaking with witnesses and examining the crash scene, police determined the crash occurred when the Accord's driver failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of State Road 142 and Wilbur Road. In doing so, the driver of the Accord entered the path of the GMC pickup truck. The pickup truck's driver attempted to swerve and avoid the Accord. The driver's efforts, however, were unsuccessful, and the truck struck the driver's side door of the Accord. First responders rendered medical aid the Accord's driver, but she was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. MCSO identified the driver of the Accord as 69-year-old Pamela Hampton of Martinsville. A dog that was in Hampton's vehicle at the time of the crash was transported to a veterinary clinic for a checkout. The pickup truck's two occupants were not injured in the crash. The pickup truck's driver was subjected to chemical testing during deputies' investigation in compliance with state law. It is unclear if MCSO investigators currently suspect drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
