Woman in fatal Huntington Beach hit-and-run crash had fentanyl and other drugs in system, say Orange County prosecutors
Amber Kristine Calderon, a Long Beach resident, has been accused of causing a fatal hit-and-run crash in Huntington Beach in October. Prosecutors have stated that toxicology results revealed she had fentanyl, methamphetamine, and marijuana in her system at the time of the collision. Calderon was driving an SUV on Pacific Coast Highway when she allegedly veered onto the shoulder and struck a group of bicyclists, killing one and injuring two others. The deceased victim, Eric John Williams, a father and pastor, leaves behind four young children. District Attorney Todd Spitzer expressed deep sorrow over the impact of Calderon's actions and emphasized that the tragedy could have been prevented. Charges against Calderon have been upgraded to include offenses like vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit and run causing permanent injury or death, and possession of hard drugs, among others. If found guilty, she could face up to 12 years and four months in prison. Calderon is scheduled to appear in court next on Feb. 12.
