Woman charged in deadly Asheville car crash
ASHEVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) - A woman was charged in connection to a crash that left one dead, according to the Asheville Police Department. On April 20, officers were called out to a crash on the 3300 block of Sweeten Creek Road. An investigation revealed a 2003 Toyota Echo was traveling south on Sweeten Creek Road when a 2020 Cadillac Escalade pulled out of a parking lot while attempting to turn left to travel north. The Escalade entered the Echo's path, leading to the crash. The driver of the Echo was identified as 68-year-old Kathy King Dalton, and the driver of the Escalade was identified as 68-year-old Jane Neill Hughes. Hughes was cited at the scene of the crash for unsafe movement. Dalton was transported to Mission Hospital for treatment, where she later died from her injuries on April 29. Officers said following a consultation with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office, Hughes was served an additional charge of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Hughes turned herself in at the Buncombe County Detention facility, and was booked under a $5,000 bond.
