(PUEBLO, Colo.) — A suspect has been arrested after apparently driving from the scene of a crash where a person was hit and killed, after a witness followed the driver and called 911, according to the Pueblo Police Department (PPD). On Wednesday, June 10, at around 2:20 a.m., officers responded to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian in the 600 block of West Northern Avenue, just west of I-25. When police arrived on the scene, they found the victim dead. The driver involved apparently left the scene but was followed by a witness who called 911, according to PPD. When officers contacted the vehicle just east of the area in the 200 block of W. Northern Ave., there was no one inside. The driver, later identified as 25-year-old Dahir Ortiz Espinoza, was found walking nearby and was taken into custody, according to police. The suspect faces several charges, including Vehicular Homicide, Failure to Remain at the Scene of a Fatal Crash, Failure to Report a Fatal Crash, Reckless Driving, and DUI. The victim's identity will be released by the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office at a later time.
