(WJHL) — Highway 91 north of Glade Spring, Va. was closed Monday morning after a truck hauling propane overturned just before 8 a.m. leaving the truck's driver hospitalized in serious condition. Crews continued to assess damage and determine when they could reopen the road, also named Crescent Road, after they learned the truck had between 1,500 and 2,000 gallons of propane on board. According to Glade Spring Assistant Fire Chief Ricky Stumbo, crews were notified at 7:39 a.m. of a dump truck on its side. They found the medium-duty commercial truck had left the road and rolled onto its passenger side, taking down one AEP power line but not bringing down any power lines. The driver of the truck was removed after an "extended extrication" and taken to the emergency department at Abingdon's Johnston Memorial Hospital. The Virginia Department of Emergency Management was called in after crews discovered the amount of propane involved and was assessing safety at the scene before cleanup could begin. Power in the area was disconnected until repairs could be made. As of 1:25 p.m., Stumbo said emergency crews had cleared the scene, but AEP and traffic control personnel were still present with one lane of the highway open.
