Volunteer firefighters from Clay County in car accident
Two volunteer firefighters from Clay County are recovering after a crash on Saturday night. The fire chief recounted that the fire command truck they were driving flipped multiple times after veering off the road, landing in a ravine. The two firefighters, who suffered minor injuries, were returning to the station from a call when the accident occurred. The department's assistant fire chief was the first to respond to the scene, providing assistance to the firefighters involved in the crash. Despite the emotional connection among the team members, who include six relatives among the 11 firefighters, they manage to set their emotions aside to focus on the task at hand. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks faced by volunteer firefighters, underscoring the importance of their work in the community. The Shinbone Valley Volunteer Fire Department, which predominantly relies on volunteers, welcomes new members and offers training and certification for those interested in becoming firefighters.
