Victim identified in fatal State Street crash

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- An Albany man has died after crashing into the Transfinder headquarters building on Sunday. According to Schenectady Police, the driver has been identified as 59-year-old Lamont Chambers. Police said officers were on their routine patrol at about 12:37 a.m. when a Suburban Tranportation vehicle crashed into the building at 440 State Street. Officers said Chambers was treated on scene by paramedics before being transported to Ellis Hospital, where he later died of his injuries. According to police, a preliminary investigation has indicated that Chambers may have experienced a heart attack before the crash happened. However, an official ruling is still under investigation. After the crash, Transfinder CEO Antonio Civitella said his prayers go out to the victim and his family and thanked all the first responders for their response. According to police, members of the Schenectady Police Traffic Division, Crime Scene Unit, the Schenectady County Crash Reconstruction team and the Schenectady Fire Paramedics responded on Sunday. As of Monday morning, the building remains under a tarp with police caution tape placed around the site.
