UPDATE: Woman dies after two-vessel crash in Intracoastal Waterway

UPDATE (7:05 p.m.) — We're learning more details about a boating accident in the Intracoastal Waterway near Wolf Bay in Baldwin County. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the two-vessel crash claimed the life of a Mobile woman. ALEA said the crash happened around 8:10 p.m. Saturday, July 18. Kristen DeLaney, 46, was injured when the 27-foot 2024 Albury Brothers vessel she was a passenger on collided with a 23-foot 2013 Key West vessel. DeLaney was transported to South Baldwin Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. There were a total of eight people on each vessel at the time of the crash. On the Albury Brothers vessel, DeLaney died and one other person was injured. On the Key West vessel, the driver and three other people were hurt, according to a release from ALEA. All of the uninjured individuals were taken to the Wharf Docks in Orange Beach. ORIGINAL REPORTING ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (WKRG) — At least nine people were taken to medical care after a boating accident near the Wharf in Orange Beach. According to a news release from the City of Orange Beach, it happened at about 8:30 Saturday night along the Intracoastal Waterway near the Wharf. Nine people were taken to area hospitals. The release doesn't say how many vessels may have been involved or exactly what happened. The city says ALEA is leading the investigation. Here's the release from the City of Orange Beach: Orange Beach, Ala. — Last night on July 18 at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Orange Beach Policeresponded to assist Orange Beach Fire Rescue and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) with a vessel accident near The Wharf Marina in the [Intracoastal] Waterway. Nine patients were taken to area hospitals. Orange Beach Police assisted Orange Beach Fire Rescue and ALEA in locating the injured parties,working landing zones for Air Care and ensuring scene security. Orange Beach Fire Rescue, Medstar Ambulance, Gulf Shores Fire Rescue and a medical helicopter transported the patients.In accordance with standard procedures, ALEA led vessel crash operations and will be the responsible party for the incident.
