Tow truck driver charged in Raleigh crash that killed motorcyclist due in court, records show

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Bond was increased to $2 million for a tow truck driver accused of being impaired in a crash that killed a motorcyclist and seriously injured three other people in Raleigh during his first court appearance Monday, records show. Allan Christopher Guerrero, 39, of Wake Forest, appeared in Wake County court on several felony charges stemming from Friday morning's crash on Capital Boulevard. Prior to his appearance, Guerrero had been given a $350,000 secured bond on the felony charges. He was also given a $150,000 secured bond on misdemeanor impairment charges, bringing his total secured bond to $500,000. Records show Guerrero's bond was raised to $2 million secured during the hearing. According to a modified release order, Guerrero's bond was increased due to him being convicted of three Class 1 misdemeanors or higher within the past 10 years. He also has an active case against him for allegedly driving with a license revoked for impairment in Raleigh last year. Guerrero is scheduled to return to Wake County court on Aug. 10, according to records. Raleigh police said officers responded around 2:35 a.m. Friday to the intersection of Capital Boulevard and Trawick Road. A preliminary investigation indicates Guerrero was attempting to make a left turn at a red light when the tow truck entered the path of oncoming traffic, police said. A sedan and two motorcycles then collided with the truck. One of the motorcyclists, identified as 35-year-old Chandler Hodge, died in the crash. The other motorcyclist was hospitalized with serious injuries but is expected to survive, according to police. Two people traveling in the sedan were also hospitalized. Police said the passenger suffered life-threatening injuries, while the driver sustained serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Guerrero was taken into custody following the crash. He is charged with aggravated felony death by vehicle, three counts of felony serious injury by vehicle, failure to stop at a steady red light, unsafe movement resulting in serious injury to a motorcyclist and unsafe movement, court records show. According to arrest warrants, Guerrero's driver's license had been revoked following a driving-while-impaired conviction in May. Investigators allege Guerrero was impaired at the time of Friday's crash. Warrants also accuse him of refusing to follow an officer’s commands at the scene and causing a disturbance at a nearby McDonald’s afterward. Guerrero faces additional misdemeanor charges of driving while impaired, driving with a license revoked for an impaired-driving offense, resisting a public officer and being intoxicated and disruptive. Records show Guerrero's bond on the misdemeanor charges remains at $150,000 secured, giving him a total bond amount of $2.15 million secured.
