Video of Middletown motorcycle crash with life-threatening injuries leads to arrests
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) — Two people were arrested after a video allegedly showed the true circumstances surrounding a motorcycle crash that caused life-threatening injuries Monday, according to Middletown police on Tuesday. The charges stem from video police obtained of a crash between a car and a motorcycle on Monday, April 13, at the intersection of Country Club Road and Higby Road. The intersection is right in front of Moody School, an elementary school. LIFE STAR responded to the scene, but the motorcycle operator was transported to a hospital by ambulance. Police said as of mid-morning Tuesday, the motorcyclist was in surgery. The car's driver allegedly fled the scene after being picked up by another vehicle, leaving the passenger to tell officers she was the driver at the time of the crash. However, police said video of the crash allegedly shows a male operator and the female as the passenger. Later identified as the alleged driver, Marco Jefferson Chamorro Cordova, 19, was charged with second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, first-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer, evading responsibility in an accident with serious physical injuries, DUI, operating a motor vehicle without a license and failure to grant right of way at an intersection. Diana Anton Peralta, 21, was charged with interfering with an officer. Cordova was held on a $500,000 cash/surety bond, and Peralta was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond.
