Columbus police said a man driving a Ford Mustang on Wednesday was traveling east on King Avenue and sped through the intersection at North High Street, running a red light and hitting two people on the sidewalk near the intersection. The car then ran into a Kroger parking lot, landing on top of a parked car with one person inside it. The two people on the sidewalk were taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but one of them was pronounced dead at 3:14 p.m., Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert said. The person in the parked car was also taken to the hospital in what was described as stable condition. The driver of the Mustang was treated for injuries at the scene, then arrested. Police believe the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash. The driver has not yet been charged. This story includes reporting from Daniel Griffin and La'Quan Richardson.
