Victim identified, charges pending, after fatal crash on Clinton Highway Tuesday
ANDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol gave the name of the victim in the Clinton Highway crash on Tuesday. It also said that charges were pending against a driver. James Pruitt, Jr., 21, of Tennessee, was identified as the victim who died in the fatal crash. According to records, charges are pending against Charles Kilpatrick, 66. According to the report, Kilpatrick was driving a school bus while Pruitt was driving a motorcycle. Kilpatrick was at a stop sign on Old State Circle while Pruitt was driving north on Clinton Highway. The report said that around 4:56 p.m., the school bus turned left onto Clinton Highway, failing to yield the right of way. Pruitt's motorcycle struck the bus near the front of the driver's side, coming to an uncontrolled final rest in the roadway, the THP said. The bus came to a controlled final stop in the roadway. Kilpatrick was injured and charges are listed as pending on the THP's preliminary report. Kilpatrick was wearing a seatbelt, and Pruitt was wearing a helmet. Clinton Highway was closed for several hours. No children were on the bus during the crash, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
