Vehicle hits power pole, residents on Bethany and Sullivan lose electricity temporarily

Update: 2 p.m. BETHANY, Ill. (WCIA) - The Macon County Sheriff's Office reported that the driver involved in the accident near the Moultrie and Macon County line earlier today emerged unharmed. The incident was reported at 11:05 a.m. and occurred close to the intersection of East Hilvety Road and Illinois Route 128. Emergency responders found a vehicle had veered off the road, struck a power pole, and came to rest in a nearby field. At 1:25 p.m., Illinois Route 128 was reopened, with Hilvety Road remaining closed between Stocks Road and Route 128 for ongoing repairs. Deputies are present as the utility lines are being fixed, and assistance from the Moultrie County Sheriff's Office has been enlisted. Following the crash, the entire Village of Bethany and the City of Sullivan experienced a power outage due to a separate vehicle colliding with a power pole. The Village of Bethany noted that restoration efforts are underway, though residents are advised that full power may take a few additional hours.
