Update: 17-year-old girl dies in Collier County car accident
UPDATE as of 5:59 p.m.: The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that a tragic accident occurred where a 17-year-old girl from Immokalee lost her life. Details provided by troopers indicate that the teenager was driving west on Vanderbilt Beach Road heading towards Islandwalk Boulevard. Simultaneously, an 86-year-old man in a Jeep was stationary facing east on the same road. As the teen proceeded through the intersection, the elderly man attempted to make a left turn. This resulted in a collision between the front of his vehicle and the side of the teenager's car. The impact caused the teen's vehicle to flip over and collide with a light pole, leading to her unfortunate passing at the scene. A passenger in the Jeep and two minors in the teen's car sustained severe injuries and were transported to the hospital. FHP is investigating the incident, particularly focusing on determining the traffic signal's color. Our thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy. Stay tuned for further updates as the investigation progresses.
