Two people hurt in I-81 crash with overturned vehicle
Two individuals were hurt in a collision involving a flipped semi-truck that resulted in the closure of Interstate 81 northbound in Hamblen County for several hours. The Tennessee Highway Patrol indicated that a Kia Soul and a Freightliner Semi-Truck were traveling north on I-81 near mile marker 14. Reportedly, the Kia's tire blew out, causing it to lose control and collide with the semi-truck and guardrail, resulting in the truck overturning. The injured Kia driver and a passenger were mentioned in the report, with one of them being airlifted to UT Med Center by UT Lifestar. Images and footage showed UT Lifestar responding to the overturned semi-truck. The incident was first noted on the TDOT Smartway map at 10:49 a.m. on Tuesday, prompting the closure of the interstate near exits onto Fish Hatchery Road and TN-160. Motorists were advised to be cautious in the vicinity.
