Trooper-involved car crash closes part of State Route 50 in Glenville

GLENVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- State Police and the Glenville Police Department announced that part of State Route 50 in Glenville is currently closed as a result of a car crash involving a state trooper. The crash happened just before 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. According to law enforcement, a trooper traveling south on Route 50 collided with another southbound car that was trying to make a left turn. The crash caused the trooper's car to overturn and strike two utility poles in the vicinity. State Police reported that at the time of the crash, the trooper's car had its lights and sirens activated while on the way to assisting the Schenectady Police Department. Both the trooper and the other driver were taken to Ellis Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. GPD said that Route 50 is expected to be closed from Freeman Bridge Road to between Miracle Lane and Rudy Chase Drive for several hours while the scene is assessed.
