Tragically, Free Like a Girl, the horse who went from a $5,500 yearling purchase to becoming the top earner among Louisiana-breds, had to be put down recently due to a serious hind leg injury sustained in a trailer accident, as confirmed by co-owner Carl Deville. Free Like a Girl amassed an impressive $2,565,628 in earnings after a successful racing career that included 21 wins out of 55 starts and 19 stakes victories. The mare was trained by Deville's daughter, Chasey Deville Pomier, and was set to be bred to Into Mischief before the unforeseen accident. Despite the heartbreaking loss, Free Like a Girl will be remembered for her exceptional achievements in the racing world, and she will continue to hold the title of top-earning Louisiana-bred.
