Man dies after ‘horrific’ Big Bear climbing accident, GoFundMe created for expecting wife says
People are raising funds for the family of a 33-year-old San Diego man who died from a “horrific hiking accident” in Big Bear earlier this month, according to a GoFundMe page. The victim, Andy Ferrarone, died in the hospital on July 15 after suffering serious injuries while rock climbing in Big Bear on July 12, his obituary states. Ferrarone leaves behind his wife Nina, who is eight weeks pregnant, according to the GoFundMe page. “Nina is 8 weeks pregnant, and while she bravely committed to keep the baby, she now faces the challenge of preparing for parenthood alone,” the GoFundMe page reads. Nina, who works as a flight attendant, now faces overwhelming medical bills from Ferrarone’s emergency care as she prepares to raise a child. Donations will help Nina cover Andy’s life-support bills, rent payments, and essential baby supplies for her first year of motherhood, the GoFundMe says. “Your support will give Nina a foundation to build a safe and loving home for her child, and ease the financial burden left in the wake of Andy’s passing,” the GoFundMe reads. “Andy and Nina were known for their warmth and outgoing spirit, and the love they shared touched everyone around them. By helping Nina, you honor Andy’s memory and ensure his legacy lives on through their baby.” As of July 27, the page has raised $35,000 of its $65,000 goal.
