Fatal crash confirmed at Columbia Road and North Old Belair Road, sheriff’s office says

UPDATE, 7:19 p.m. – According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, one person has died as a result of the crash at Columbia Road and North Old Belair Road on Monday. Deputies stated 58-year-old Frank Thurman Lanier of Appling, Ga. was driving his 2006 Big Dog motorcycle when a driver of a 2018 Honda Accord reportedly struck him, causing him to be ejected from the bike. CPR was performed on scene by bystanders that stopped to help until Columbia County Fire Rescue arrived and took over. Gold Cross EMS arrived and Lanier taken to Doctors Hospital in Augusta where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Honda Accord, 41-year-old Shalimar Shante Anderson of Evans, is being charged with Failure to Yield When Turning Left and Vehicle Homicide in the 2nd Degree. COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – Deputies with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office and Columbia County Fire Rescue personnel are on the scene of a crash with injuries on Monday, The crash took place at Columbia Road and North Old Belair Road shortly before 5 p.m. on July 27. According to CCSO, CPR is being done on an individual involved in the crash. This is a developing story.
