Body discovered in The Bay connected to Volare boating accident near Alcatraz

(KRON)-- A body that was found in the water near Point Diablo, west of the Golden Gate Bridge, on July 25 was identified, according to the San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The person was identified as 74-year-old Carol Boisa, who was aboard the boat that was involved in a tragic accident that killed three people near Alcatraz on July 14. Carol Boisa was one of 20 close friends and family members who went on a memorial cruise near Alcatraz Island on July 14 to spread the ashes of Maria Boisa, a Fremont nurse who died a decade ago, into the bay. During the service, the 49-foot-long boat, named Volare, capsized from a large wave, sending passengers overboard to swim to safety. Sixteen people were rescued and survived. Retired sheriff’s deputy Clifford Boisa, 79, of Sutter County, died soon after he was pulled from the water. Carol Boisa is Clifford Boisa’s sister, family members told KRON4. The second victim, found on July 16, was identified as 58-year-old Tondra Madruga, aka Tondra Miller, of Sacramento County, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner officials told KRON4. Carol Boisa is the third victim to be identified from the accident. One person from the accident remains missing. OCME has notified the family of Boisa and has no further information on the final missing person.
