State Police: Man arrested after car crash kills Marked Tree Police Officer
A Marked Tree man has been in connection to the death of Marked Tree Police Department Officer Trevor Howard, State Police announced on Friday. Police say they arrested 28-year-old Kareem Jones and charged him with Negligent Homicide, Second Degree Battery, Criminal Mischief, Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, No Insurance, and Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign on July 17. Jones was taken to the Poinsett County Detention Center. Police say the arrest came after Jones ran a stop sign and struck Howard's vehicle on Highway 14, causing it to overturn. Howard suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Authorities say that no other information is being released at this time.
