Semi crash shuts down I-43 North in Waukesha County
A fatal semi-truck crash has shut down northbound Interstate 43 northbound in Big Bend. The crash happened near the Walmart and park and ride area, shutting down I-43 northbound from the WIS 83 ramp to WIS 164.The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office said one semi rear-ended the other. One driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Drivers should use WIS 83 northbound to Highway ES/Fox Street eastbound, then take WIS 164 southbound to get back to I-43.News Chopper 12 was over the scene, showing debris scattered across the highway and drivers being rerouted off the interstate.The I-43 northbound in that area is expected to remain closed for an extended period of time, the sheriff's office said. Drivers should allow extra time through the Big Bend-Mukwonago area. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
