Pursuit of stolen U-Haul ends in deadly Orange County crash; 2 arrested

Two suspects are in custody following a pursuit of a stolen U-Haul that ended in a crash that killed at least one person in San Clemente on Monday, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department. Just before 8 a.m., San Clemente deputies reportedly attempted a traffic stop on a stolen U-Haul, but the driver did not comply. Deputies pursued the driver for a short time before the U-Haul collided with another vehicle near Ola Vista and Avenida Granada, according to the sheriff's department. The driver and passenger of the U-Haul fled the scene, authorities said. The other car involved in the crash reportedly had multiple passengers, including one who died at the scene. Other passengers inside the vehicle were transported to the hospital. No further details about their condition were immediately available. Sky5 was over the scene at 10 a.m., where the U-Haul could be seen with the front end completely smashed in. Three other vehicles appear to have been involved in the crash. The U-Haul driver and passenger were eventually located and taken into custody, according to the sheriff's department.
