Pursuit ends in fatal rollover crash on US 30

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) -- Police and medics are responding to a fatal rollover crash just outside of Fort Wayne city limits. According to a public information officer with the Indiana State Police, officers received a call to conduct a wellness check on someone suffering from a mental health crisis at around 12:15 p.m. Officers located the described vehicle on US 30 near County Road 300 E in Whitley County. When police attempted to pull the driver over, the vehicle fled east into Allen County. While the driver began to flee from police, the vehicle veered to the right and struck a tree, rolling onto its top, and came to a stop near Butt Road. Only the driver was in the car at the time of the crash, and ISP has confirmed that that person has died. Both of the eastbound lanes of US 30 were briefly closed, and now only one is closed in the area of the crash. Traffic is now flowing again around that area. In a release from the ISP, the identity of the driver and the cause of death have not yet been confirmed, and the Allen County Coroner will provide that information at a later date. The crash remains under investigation.
