Porsche driver arrested after fatal nine-vehicle crash in Pacific Beach

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter after a high-speed crash involving nine vehicles left one person dead Tuesday evening in Pacific Beach, authorities said. According to the San Diego Police Department, the collision happened around 8 p.m. in the 2800 block of Garnet Avenue near Mission Bay Drive. Police said a 33-year-old man was stopped at a red light in a Kia when a westbound Porsche Cayman, driven by a 59-year-old man, crashed into the rear of the vehicle at a high rate of speed. The impact triggered a chain-reaction collision involving a total of nine vehicles, SDPD confirmed. The 32-year-old driver was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His identity has not been released. Three people in other vehicles suffered minor injuries and were also transported to local hospitals for treatment. The driver of the Porsche was arrested at the scene on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter. SDPD's Traffic Division is investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision. Police said alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.
