Police: 2 killed in NKY head-on crash after SUV passes on double yellow

BRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (WKRC) - Two people are dead after an SUV hit a car head-on while attempting to pass on a double yellow line. According to Kentucky State Police, the crash happened on Kentucky 9 (AA Highway) at Dutch Ridge Road on Saturday. It left two Bracken County residents dead and sent another driver to the hospital. Police said it was requested by Bracken County Dispatch to investigate the fatal collision. Investigators determined a Ford SUV was traveling west on AA Highway and attempting to pass on a double yellow line when it struck a Kia head-on. The Kia’s driver, Tyler Smith, and front-seat passenger, Emily Smith, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Bracken County Coroner. The driver of the SUV was taken to UK Medical Center with injuries. The crash remains under investigation. KSP said it was assisted at the scene by Bracken County EMS, Bracken County Fire, and the Bracken County Sheriff’s Office.
