Pickup truck driver killed in 6-vehicle crash on I-5 in Stanislaus County, CHP says
A driver was killed in a crash involving six vehicles, including a semi-truck, on southbound Interstate 5 in Stanislaus County on Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officers responded to the crash just before 4:15 p.m. on the southbound lanes of I-5 just north of Ingram Creek Road in Westley. CHP officials said a pickup truck was traveling southbound in the slow lane and sideswiped an SUV stopped on the right shoulder. The SUV was then pushed into another SUV. CHP said the pickup truck then continued driving and sideswiped two additional vehicles, both sedans. The pickup truck then crashed into the back of a stopped Freightliner. The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said. No one else was injured in the crash. CHP officials said the driver of the pickup truck was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. It's not clear if drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision. Some of the southbound lanes of I-5 were shut down as the crash was cleared. As of 6:40 p.m., the fast lane was open. See the latest traffic information here.
