Pedestrian dies weeks later after being hit; Austin Police identifies victim

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Austin Police on Wednesday identified the pedestrian who died weeks later after being hit by a vehicle in February. Jefferson Gustavo Ramirez Ramirez, 24, died March 6 after he was taken to a hospital on Feb. 20 with critical, life-threatening injuries. The crash was reported just before 7 p.m. Austin Police responded to the 9300 block of Menchaca Road, near Davis Lane. The Austin Police Department said the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 15th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 15 fatalities. KXAN tracks the number of traffic fatalities in Austin.
