31-year-old dies after being struck by tree branch while riding ATV
VALLEY CENTER, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A 31-year-old man died Sunday after a tree branch struck his head while he and a passenger were riding an ATV near Camino Del Venado in Valley Center, according to Oceanside police. The driver, 31, and his 27-year-old passenger were allegedly driving on a Can-Am ATV approximately 40 mph on private property, according to the report. For reasons still under investigation, the ATV reportedly drove off the roadway and down an embankment. They went past a low-hanging tree branch, which struck both the driver and passenger in the head and ejected them from the ATV. Paramedics pronounced the driver dead at the scene, while the passenger reportedly suffered moderate injuries, according to authorities. Police are also investigating whether DUI played a part in the crash.
